Tesla Factory and Model Year VIN Codes
Use Tesla VIN year and factory codes to understand when and where a Tesla was built.
Model year code
The 10th VIN character identifies the model year. For recent Tesla vehicles, letters such as R, S, and T map to 2024, 2025, and 2026 respectively.
Factory code
The 11th VIN character points to the assembly plant. Common Tesla factory codes include F for Fremont, A for Austin, B for Berlin-Brandenburg, and C for Shanghai.
How to use year and factory together
The year and factory codes help compare listings and production context. They do not replace a full vehicle history report, but they make it easier to spot mismatches between a listing title, paperwork, and the actual VIN.
Does the model year always match the calendar year?
No. Model years can begin before the calendar year changes, so use the VIN year code instead of assuming from the sale date.
Can two factories build the same Tesla model?
Yes. Tesla production is distributed across factories, and availability depends on model, market, and production period.
